STAR CITY — The Star City Volunteer Fire Department will receive $74,958 from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, as announced by U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) Tuesday, June 21.
The funds will go toward operations and safety, and can be used to purchase training and protective gear, as well as to make health and safety improvements to stations and facilities.
The program split $124,654 among three volunteer fire departments in West Virginia. In addition to Star City VFD, McKinleyville VFD will receive $24,762 and Hundred VFD will receive $24,934.
“Our first responders in West Virginia sacrifice so much to protect our families and our homes,” said Manchin, who has worked with the volunteer rescue squad in Marion County. “These grants will help make sure local fire departments in Star City, Wellsburg and Hundred have access to the necessary equipment and training they need to keep our communities safe and secure each and every day.”
