MORGANTOWN — The mother of one of Skylar Neese’s killers is asking for judgment in her favor in a civil suit.
Tara Clendenen filed a motion this month in Monongalia County Circuit Court for judgment in her favor.
In 2014, Mary Neese, Skylar’s mother, filed suit against Shelia Eddy, Rachel Shoaf, Patricia Shoaf, Eddy’s mother Clendenen and others over Skylar’s death. A federal court ruled that insurance providers did not have to provide a defense in the case.
The Neese family alleges negligence and other claims against the defendants.
In July 2012, Skylar left her Star City apartment and got into a vehicle with Eddy and Rachel Shoaf. The three were friends and drove to the Blacksville area. There, Eddy and Shoaf attacked, stabbing Skylar to death.
Clendenen argues that she didn’t have custody of Eddy, as she left to spend the night at Shoaf’s house. Clendenen also argues the last negligent act was by the Neeses, for their failure to prevent Skylar from leaving the home, and if they had, no injury would have occurred.
