MORGANTOWN — About 500 people went trotting down the rail-trail Thursday, Nov. 26, for a good cause and a fast start to their Thanksgiving holiday.
Morgantown Running hosted its 4th Turkey Trot to begin the holiday. The event included a kids’ race at the WVU track and then a 5K from the Coliseum down the rail-trail to the Seneca Center. There was a canned food drive to benefit the Bartlett House, and all the money raised went to Girls on the Run.
“It’s just fun for the community to get out and start your day,” said Heather Cleary, owner of Morgantown Running.
This year featured roughly 500 runners, up from 320 last year. Cleary said they have had steady growth in the event through the years, and she is happy to see more people participating.
